Golden Harvest at Qimei’s Yongbei Forest Farm: A Cycle of Organic Integrity

As the lingering warmth of late summer still rests on the Southern Hebei plains, the fields at Qimei’s Yongbei Forest Organic Farm are buzzing with activity. Located in the state-owned forest lands of Yongnian District, this farm—established in 2019—has entered its most critical window of the year. The corn husks have turned from green to gold, with tips blushing a subtle red, signaling that the organic corn is finally ready for harvest.

Precision in the Field

The harvest begins as the reaper moves from the eastern edge of the field. The machinery is designed for efficiency and soil health: whole corn plants are drawn into the harvester, where the heavy ears are stripped from the stalks and conveyed directly into accompanying trucks. These kernels, still protected by their husks, are destined for the processing facility to be shelled and prepared for market.

However, nothing goes to waste in this operation. The remaining stalks and leaves are chopped into fine silage within the machine and unloaded into a separate transport vehicle.

A Closed-Loop Ecosystem

What happens next defines the farm’s philosophy. Instead of discarding the crop residue, the chopped stalks are transported just a few dozen meters to pre-dug silage pits. Here, loaders compact the material layer by layer before it is sealed under tarps to ferment. Some silage is even compacted and covered right in the field.

This process is the heartbeat of an ecosystem that has been running for eight years. By converting stalks into high-quality feed through fermentation, the farm ensures that nutrients are returned to the soil cycle, maintaining the organic integrity of the land for future seasons.
